Ball, Smoke and old school Ultras
Last September, a rare thing happened in Russian football. All being more or less civil lately with the World Cup approaching, two teams were set to play in the Cup game turned into a time machine.
Torpedo and Dinamo were once legendary clubs, winning 14 league titles combined. But since Perestroika the first one went bankrupt and relegated and the second one being an outsider.
Their ultras thus were spared when other teams’ fans went civil. Combined with Torpedo’s crumbling stadium, their derby in the Cup was truly a look into the nineties.
I photographed it in black and white.
